Barcelona defender Carles Puyol suffered a nasty injury to his right arm in their 2-0 Champions League win over Benfica, today. In the 76th minute, Puyol jumped for a header from a corner kick but landed very awkwardly on his arm, bending his elbow in a way it was not meant to bend. From the looks of the video, the injury could be more than just his elbow, as the entire weight of his body forced his shoulder back along with the rest of his arm.
Puyol was carried off of the pitch on a stretcher and taken to a hospital, but there has been no word of how significant the damage was. This is a huge blow not only for Barcelona, but the defender himself, as he was playing for the first time since his quick return from a knee injury he sustained only two weeks ago.
