Sensei Keiko Fukuda is the first women to ever earn the honor of receiving the tenth-degree black belt and is 1 out of 16 people who have actually earned the honor. As a grappling practitioner I have nothing but admiration and respect for Sensei Keiko Fukuda. It takes serious time and dedication to the art to actually even get a promotion. Unlike Karate, where everyone becomes a black belt after year or two of training.
Sensei Keiko Fukuda passed up the traditional life of marriage and kids to help spread the knowledge of Judo to the generations after hers after some urging from her teacher. Her love was Judo, the gentle sport, she was married to the game of throwing, sweeping, and choking people out. The 98-year-old Sensei Keiko Fukuda continues to teach Judo three times a week at a woman’s dojo .Mind you she’s been training since 1935. She kind of reminds me of my favorite Catch-Can teacher, Billy Robinson. Older than dirt, tougher than leather and still kicking some ass.
