On Tuesday, comedian Artie Lange, for some completely unknown reason, decided to tweet some “thoughts” on ESPN’s First Take host Cari Champion. The remarks ended up gaining some traction because, well, they’re completely disrespectful, racist and downright awful (somehow, they’re still in Lange’s Twitter feed as of this writing).
This is what counts for “humor” in Lange’s mind (language is not safe for work or for the mind):
Bad? Yes, undoubtedly. It somehow got even worse from there.
While Champion herself hasn’t responded to Lange’s “comments”, ESPN did issue the following statement which lambasted Lange for his series of tweets:
“His comments were reprehensible and no one should be subjected to such hateful language. They objectify and demean one of our valued employees under the thin guise of ‘comedy’ and are offensive to all of us. We will not dignify them with any other comment.”
On Wednesday, Lange responded to criticisms where he basically framed himself as the real victim of the PC police or something (the last, desperate defense of vile comments everywhere). It was somehow almost as embarrassing and disgusting as the tweets that set off this firestorm.
