Mike Tyson made an appearance on a Canadian news network on Wednesday afternoon to promote his one-man show called “The Undisputed Truth.” This comes one day after Tyson met with and endorsed Toronto mayor Rob Ford, who is in the process of running for re-election.
During the sit-down interview on live TV, the reporter, Nathan Downer, asked Tyson what he would say to those who say his endorsement of Ford would hurt the politician because it comes from a convicted rapist. Bad idea.
Tyson was clearly angered by the question and proceeded to cuss out Downer, calling him a “rat piece of shit” before the reporter reminded him that it was a live bit – to which Mike responded “I don’t care. Do something about it.”
Downer and Mike’s sidekick attempted to salvage the interview by quickly changing the subject, but it was eventually cut short when Tyson once again began hurling swears in Downer’s direction.
The situation wasn’t exactly handled well by either side, but I’d say this disaster falls on the reporter. I’m sure Mike wasn’t expecting a question like that – nor should he have been, considering it was a local news segment to promote his show and not a 60 Minutes special – and Downer had to know how much of a wild card Mike can be.
I will, however, give the reporter credit for not crapping his pants like I would have instantly done. Mike Tyson is not a man you want to piss off.
