Former Texas A&M Aggies superstar quarterback Johnny Manziel is one of the most iconic college football players in recent memory. But in a rather shocking turn of events, it seems that Johnny Manziel no longer wishes to be a part of the Heisman Trophy ceremony in protest for another winner he believes is being treated unfairly.
On Saturday morning, Johnny Manziel announced that he will no longer be a part of the Heisman Trophy ceremony until Reggie Bush has his Heisman Trophy returned.
“After careful thought and consideration I will be humbly removing myself from the Heisman trophy ceremony until @ReggieBush gets his trophy back. Doesn’t sit right with my morals and values that he can’t be on that stage with us every year. Reggie IS the Heisman trophy,” Manziel said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Bush had his 2005 Heisman Trophy stripped from him after an NCAA investigation that determined Bush received impermissible benefits during his time at USC. But in an era where players are allowed to profit from their name, image, and likeness, Bush’s continued exclusion from the Heisman Trophy trust has become controversial.
Obviously, this is a pretty major announcement from Johnny Manziel, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
Love this. I’m doing the same. No more Heisman ceremony for me either. https://t.co/rRwXiKbopZ

Will be interesting to see if other Heisman winners follow Johnny’s lead here to help get @ReggieBush his Heisman Trophy back. https://t.co/sCxJG5vkvv

This is a standup decision brother. I’m glad you initiated and hope other Heisman winners soon follow. Join us on @thepivot someday. Myself, @Realrclark25 and @OfficialCrowder would love to expound on this, as well as, catch up with you. Stay blessed brother https://t.co/UZf9BF20Wf

Now this is actually standing on bidness. Really hope other Heisman winners do the same. Reggie’s records and Heisman should have been restored the very minute NIL was legalized. https://t.co/OOPGuVpgjB
