Just before the start of another college football season, the Utah State Aggies were struck with tragedy over the weekend as defensive back Andre Seldon Jr. passed away in a tragic accident.
On Saturday night, Andre Seldon Jr. was found dead by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team after he was seen diving from cliffs at Porcupine Reservoir and did not resurface. The Utah State Aggies football team announced news of his tragic death late on Saturday night.
“Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own,” interim head coach and defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling said in a statement on Saturday night. “Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.”
Seldon had just joined the team this summer after two seasons with New Mexico State and was set to begin taking classes in the fall. Before that, Seldon spent the first two seasons of his college career with the Michigan Wolverines.
It’s a devastating tragedy that undoubtedly will leave the Utah State community mourning.
