Longtime Iowa Hawkeyes head coach Lisa Bluder announced her retirement on Monday after 24 seasons with the program. And the biggest star she ever produced, Caitlin Clark, had plenty to say about her former coach’s retirement on social media.
On Monday, Bluder shared a statement via the Iowa Hawkeyes team website to announce her retirement after 24 years with the program.
“It is with a range of emotions that I share with you today that I have decided to step down from leading the Iowa women’s basketball team after 24 memorable years,” wrote Bluder. “I informed President Wilson and Director of Athletics Beth Goetz of my decision and I am grateful for their unwavering support and offered them my assistance in any manner in the future.”
Bluder also went on to thank her former players and the Iowa Hawkeyes fanbase for their continued support over the years.
Clark quickly took to social media after the announcement was made, praising her former coach and thanking her for all she had done to help advance her career while she was at Iowa.
“Simply no one better at building a team,” wrote Clark on Twitter/X. Thank you for believing in me more than anyone. Enjoy retirement, coach. Very much deserved.”
Clark likely would have been an excellent player anywhere if given the opportunity at the college level. But it was Bluder who handed her over the keys to the Iowa offense. And it sure seems like Clark is quite grateful to have spent time with Bluder.
