Last week, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders surprised a lot of people when he re-shared a post criticizing one of his former players, adding the commentary “Lawd Jesus” to a post from a fan mocking the stats of former Colorado safety Xavier Smith, who criticized Sanders in some comments last month. And now, Sanders is explaining his antics.
During a recent interview with Thee Pregame Show, Deion Sanders claimed that his shocking social media antics came because he was “bored.”
“I gotta do better on that and not ride with it, but I was bored,” Sanders said according to USA Today’s Brent Schrotenboer. “I was bored, and I didn’t say nothing hurtful. I don’t attack people.”
Sanders seems to think that his comments were actually just misinterpreted.
“I try my best to refrain, but like when you posted stats, I said, ‘Lawd Jesus.’ Like dang, he really went at him. Like he really shot him,” Sanders said. “That’s really what I meant, and I think that was taken wrong. I think that was taken sideways or something else.”
Regardless of what he meant, it was certainly not a good look for a college football coach of his standing and notoriety.
