The New England Patriots’ victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers was not without its controversy (a theme which will likely follow the Patriots from now until whenever Bill Belichick decides to retire/return to whatever football realm he came from) as it was reported that the Steelers’ coaches heard the Patriots’ radio broadcast in their headsets during the game.
Given the Patriots reputation around the league, people were quick to speculate that the Patriots were somehow responsible for the Steelers’ headset issues. A particularly salty Mike Tomlin basically accused the Pats of subterfuge during his postgame press conference. Even though the NFL released a statement following the game explaining that the Patriots were not to blame for Pittsburgh’s headset issues, #HeadsetGate was born.
As such, it didn’t take long for one industrious Patriots fan to register headsetgate.com. It’s a particularly well-designed site that provides plenty of information on the science of radio waves, weather and the rules and regulations of headset installation in – who are we kidding, it’s a semi-confusing but obtusely hilarious troll job.
As hastily put-together as the site is, one has to admire the small attention to detail, such as the slightly smaller font for “Suck it Steelers” that brilliantly connotes how even the victory over the Steelers was somewhat of an afterthought to Patriots fans in light of the dumb #HeadsetGate drama.
