As the rest of the MLB goes through the motions of bestowing Derek Jeter with gifts as if he were the a travelling dignitary and not an opposing player, the Yankees know that they have some tough acts to follow.
However, when it comes to the Yankees slavish devotion to all things Derek Jeter, this is bordering on parody.
The team, including the guy who hasn’t even retired yet, will wear a patch honoring Derek Jeter for presumably anointing the Yankees in holy water. Staggeringly, the Yankees will wear this patch from September 7th through the end of the season.

Why September 7th? Because that’s Derek Jeter Day.
As part of Derek Jeter Day, #Yankees will wear a patch depicting Jeter’s final season logo on the left sleeve of their uniform and cap.

If the Yankees could build a statue and vote Derek Jeter into the Hall of Fame today, they would have already. The Jeter worship is going to get damn near unbearable as the season draws to an end. The Captain is dangerously close to being rebranded “Dear Leader” at this point.
