The Westboro Baptist Church, never ones to pass up a gay-bashing opportunity, have turned their eyes to the NBA playoffs in the wake of Jason Collins’ announcement that he is gay. The fringe congregation, which is known for picketing the funerals of dead soldiers (and, most recently, victims of the Boston Marathon bombings…oh, and they also think Barack Obama is the Antichrist), plans to beat its hateful drums outside Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City for Game 5 of the Rockets-Thunder series.
A flier posted to the church’s Twitter account refers to Collins as a “has-been pervert” and “filthy beast”, while calling on Thunder superstar Kevin Durant to “lift up your voice against this awful sin; use the platform God gave you to warn your fellow man to flee destruction”. In addition, they’ve created the hashtag #GodH8sTheNBA, which we’re fairly certain won’t be trending anytime soon.
