Alexander Semin scored the overtime winner and added an assist in the Capitals’ 2-1 win over the Rangers in Game One of their Eastern Conference playoff series Wednesday. The dangerous Russian snapped a 15 overtime scoreless streak for him, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. New York defenceman Matt Gilroy broke a scoreless tie with a one-timer 1:56 into the third period, and Ovechkin tied it with 6:16 left in the third period.
