On Tuesday evening, women’s basketball superstar Caitlin Clark made her much-anticipated WNBA debut with the Indiana Fever as they took on the Connecticut Sun, but things did not exactly go the way Clark or the Fever had hoped.
Caitlin Clark, known for her prolific offense, struggled to find a rhythm shooting and was sloppy with the ball. Clark did not make her first bucket until midway through the second quarter and she finished the game with a staggering 10 turnovers, many of which were unforced.
After the game, Fever coach Christie Sides reacted to the performance from Clark by pointing out that even though she is one of the most highly-anticipated rookies in WNBA history, she is still a rookie.
“She’s a rookie,” Sides said according to ESPN. “This is the best league in the world. We’ve got to teach her. We’ve got to teach her what these games are going to look like for her every single night. And we’ve got to eliminate some of that pressure for her, and that’s on me.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how Clark is able to bounce back from the lackluster performance during the first game of her WNBA career.
