Caitlin Clark Syndication: The Indianapolis Star

On Thursday night, Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark made her home debut with the team for a preseason game against the Atlanta Dream after she was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft just a few weeks ago. And even though it was just a preseason game, her debut led to an absolutely massive crowd.

According to WNBA Reporter Khristina Williams, more than 13,000 people packed into the arena on Thursday night to watch Caitlin Clark’s debut with the team.

“The Indiana Fever broadcast has reported that 13,028 fans are in attendance for tonight’s preseason game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse,” Williams said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

To put that attendance total into context, that is a bigger crowd than any Fever regular season game last year when the average attendance was 4,066. In fact, it’s a bigger crowd than all but 12 Fever games on record – regular or postseason – and it’s the biggest total since September of 2016 when over 17,000 came out to watch Tamika Catchings’ last regular season home game.

Needless to say, this is pretty insane news, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

We’ll have to see how many people attend Clark’s regular season debut.
