It’s been a tough season for the Indiana Fever so far as they’ve lost eight of their first nine games after drafting Caitlin Clark with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft last month. But Caitlin Clark is setting her focus on other things – her young fans.

During a press conference following the team’s loss to the Seattle Storm on Thursday night, Caitlin Clark had a message for Indiana Fever fans as she acknowledged the team’s struggles, but referenced a young fan who traveled from Utah to Indiana to watch Clark play.

“At the end of the day, that’s why you play basketball. Sure, the wins are great but the way the game has changed over the course of my career, whether it’s college and now coming here, you look around at all these young girls. They’re coming to these games, and then even after the game we lose by however many points, but they’re still the happiest young girls in the world. They couldn’t be more thrilled that they’re here. They could care less how much we won by or how many points I scored or whatever it was,” Clark said according to Kyle Smedley.

Even though the team has been struggling, Clark is grateful for the support from the fans.

“It’s just the experience and seeing us play, that’s just the coolest thing to me. I hope our fans continue to come back because this team is really fun to watch. I don’t think we’re really showing our full product yet, it’s just a work in progress. We’re young, we’re inexperienced, and I know we sound like a broken record saying that, but it’s true.”

Clark is clearly keeping things in perspective.
