As we told you yesterday, Axelle Despiegelaere – the 17-year old Belgium fan who captured all of our hearts at the World Cup – had received a modeling contract from L’Oreal thanks to her striking beauty.

But that contract was very short-lived, as the company has decided to cut ties with the Belgian teen thanks in large part to a controversial photograph she posted to Facebook a few weeks ago.

Here’s the photo that caused all kinds of outrage across the world:

L’Oreal is playing it cool and stating that Despiegelaere’s “contract has been completed.” From The Independent:

The spokesperson said that, although the brand was aware of the photograph, it would not comment on whether this was behind the decision to terminate Ms Despiegelaere’s contract. However, they were keen to stress that L’Oréal “no longer tests on animals, anywhere in the world, and does not delegate this task to others.”

If you’re confused about why that photo has raised such a stink, well, join the club. I understand that hunting and animal rights are a hot button issue for some, but give me a break…the girl’s 17-years old and it’s pretty clear she was just joking around about “hunting Americans.” Was it the best decision in the world? Certainly not, but how many teenager’s do you know are expert decision-makers, especially on social media?

Seems like a lot of people are manufacturing outrage over a little bit of playful trash talk. Good going, Internet.
