Several months ago, transgender women’s cyclist Austin Killips appeared to push a female competitor during a race, although Killips was not disqualified from the competition. And former Olympic cyclist Inga Thompson thinks it’s because she got preferential treatment since she was a transgender athlete.
During an appearance on the “Gaines for Girls” podcast hosted by anti-trans activist Riley Gaines, Inga Thompson claimed that if anybody else but a transgender athlete had done what Austin Killips did during the competition, it would have been an automatic disqualification.
“If a woman had done that to another woman or if a man had done that to another man, every official out there has told me, is an automatic disqualification,” Thompson told Gaines according to Fox News. “But, it shows again the preference is going to the transgender women in the sport, no official wanted to touch it because they were going to get labeled as transphobic and then they had maybe some sanctions coming after them.”
This incident has led to quite a lot of conversation on social media as a result.

It’s worth noting that the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), which is the world governing body for the sport of cycling, now prohibits transgender cyclists who “transitioned after (male) puberty” from participating in women’s events.
