Every year, countless awards are given out to individual NFL players but the NFL’s offensive linemen rarely receive the attention and accolades that nearly every other position enjoys.
Next Impulse Sports and Athletes LTD will be looking to change all that with a weekly series entitled The Trenches (Big Guys Need Love Too) which will highlight one offensive lineman for his game day outstanding performance.
For this week, The Trenches honored Dallas Cowboys rookie Zack Martin with the coveted Golden Knee Brace for his excellent work in the Cowboys’ dramatic victory over the New York Giants. Odell Beckham Jr. may have gotten the headlines but it was work like Zack’s that got Dallas the victory.
How comfortable was Tony Romo on the Cowboys game winning drive against the Giants? Comfortable enough that he was able to go 6-6 in his passing attempts with a touchdown to Dez Bryant. As great as Romo is in the clutch (he has 27 game-winning drives!), his offensive line made it all possible by making sure that Romo could go through his progressions multiple times.
It wasn’t just the last drive either. Running back DeMarco Murray also rushed for 121 yards on 24 carries over the course of the game. The guys up front did work and Martin gets a well-deserved Golden Knee Brace as a result.
