Today, the New England Patriots officially signed running back LeGarrette Blount after Blount had been dramatically released by the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this week.
The deal is reportedly for two years for the veteran’s minimum as a base salary with incentives thrown in as well.
The signing represents a reunion for Blount and the Patriots. Blount was a member of the Patriots last season where he memorably ran all over the Indianapolis Colts in the playoffs. The team decided to not re-sign Blount over the offseason and Blount went to Pittsburgh where he quickly wore out his welcome. A return to New England could be the best thing for both parties and it is expected that Blount can help a backfield which is missing Stevan Ridley for the rest of the season.
Among those who were very happy with the signing was Tom Brady. The Patriots quarterback posted this clip from last season where he and LeGarrette exchanged a high-five on his Facebook. Brady (or the genius who runs his page) even edited the video to play “Welcome Back, Kotter” over it because no one is better at Facebook than Tom Brady.
