Tom Brady grew up rooting for the San Francisco 49ers, but that’s certainly not the case anymore because of a longstanding grudge he’s held against the team for more than two decades.
During the latest episode of his “Let’s Go” podcast this week, Tom Brady got pretty candid about his feelings toward the San Francisco 49ers, beginning with the nostalgia that surrounds the team every time he watches them.
“Even though it was my hometown team growing up and they passed on me six times, I still watch the Niners and those uniforms still bring back a lot of great childhood memories,” Brady said on the podcast according to CBS Sports.
But those “great childhood memories” are not enough to get Brady to root for the Niners now, even in retirement. As it turns out, Brady still can’t bring himself to root for the San Francisco 49ers after the team passed on him in the 2000 NFL Draft six different times.
“They passed me up six times in 2000, so [expletive] them and that whole staff that kept me out because I had a chip on my shoulder for a long time,” Brady said.
It’s obviously been over two decades since that happened, but it’s clear that time didn’t heal this wound.
