Despite a previous report, it sounds like the Pittsburgh Steelers could be interested in bringing in a new quarterback this offseason, after all.
According to a report from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are planning to meet with Russell Wilson about potentially joining the team after the Broncos officially decided to part ways with the veteran quarterback earlier this week.
“The Steelers are interested in signing Russell Wilson and are tentatively planning to meet with the former Denver Broncos quarterback before the official start of free agency next week, sources have told the Post-Gazette,” Dulac wrote on Thursday.
“Wilson, 35, has an interest in joining the Steelers, but he is already talking with at least one other team after the Broncos gave him permission to seek employment elsewhere before they release him.”
This move comes just a few days after a report suggested that the Steelers were not interested in signing Wilson or any of the other top available quarterbacks this offseason. It appears that is not the case, after all.
Steelers starting quarterback Kenny Pickett did not live up to expectations in the 2023 season and the team ultimately decided to start Mason Rudolph down the stretch and into the playoffs.
We’ll have to see whether or not the Steelers and Wilson can agree to a contract.
