The Pittsburgh Steelers appear set to make some significant changes at the quarterback position during the offseason, and it looks like they’ve already made the first major move to change up their quarterback room before the free agency period even begins.
According to a report from league insider Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Pittsburgh Steelers are releasing veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.
“The #Steelers and QB Mitchell Trubisky have decided to mutually part ways, sources say. The sides spoke to assess the situation and Trubisky, 29, gets a fresh start just over a month ahead of the start of the league year and free agency,” Garafolo wrote in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
“Trubisky had two years left on his deal, with $5.25 million due this upcoming season. As we detailed yesterday, there was expected to be significant change in the #Steelers’ QB room,” Garafolo said in a follow-up post.
Trubisky has been with the Steelers since joining the team ahead of the 2022 season. He started two games this season after starter Kenny Pickett suffered an injury midway through the season, but he went just 0-2 and was ultimately benched in favor of Mason Rudolph.
We’ll have to see where he lands in free agency and what the Steelers do instead.
