Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver Devonta Smith was knocked out of Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints with a big hit, and teammate C.J. Gardner-Johnson was not happy about it.
The injury occurred when New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Khristian Boyd hit Devonta Smith from behind while he was already wrapped up.
The hit was enough to knock Smith’s helmet off and remove him from the game as he was checked for a possible concussion.
During his postgame interview, C.J. Gardner-Johnson expressed his displeasure with what he thought was a “dirty” hit.
“Man, that’s the dirtiest [thing] I ever saw in football, bro,” Gardner-Johnson said according to Tim McManus of ESPN.
“Y’all obviously saw forward progression was stopped. For them to take a cheap shot on one of our key players, it goes to show what type of team that is. They’re front-runners.”
Needless to say, this callout led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“He’s not lying,” one fan responded on social media.
“It wasn’t just a cheap shot, it was a vicious cheap shot. Worthy of a suspension,” another fan said.
“If that happened to Mahomes, dude would be on his way to Guantanamo already. The inconsistency with the officiating is maddening,” another fan said.
“That was dirty and the refs fault. Forward progress should of been blown,” another fan added.
“Yes it was. Now let’s see if the league does anything about it,” another fan said.
“He’s right,” a fan added.
Clearly, people generally agree with the Eagles’ star.
