As Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes prepares for the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, he is dealing with a pretty horrible family situation after his father Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested in Texas under suspicion of driving under the influence and could face several years in prison. And he was asked about it on Monday.
During Monday night’s Super Bowl opening night press conference, Patrick Mahomes was asked about the horrible situation regarding his father. Mahomes said that his father was doing “good” after the arrest, but he did not want to discuss the matter further.
“It’s a family matter, so I’ll keep it to the family,” Mahomes told reporters during Super Bowl opening night, according to Pro Football Talk. “That’s all I have to say.”
Given that this is the third DUI offense for the elder Mahomes, he could face between two to 10 years in prison, under Texas law, as a repeat offender. He was released from Smith County Jail in Texas on Sunday afternoon after posting $10,000 bond, and while it’s not clear whether or not he will be in Las Vegas to support his son at Super Bowl LVIII, he was not given a travel ban as part of his bond agreement.
