The Kansas City Chiefs made a huge move on Monday, agreeing to a massive contract extension with star tight end Travis Kelce that will likely keep Kelce in Kansas City for the remainder of his NFL career. And naturally, there is perhaps nobody more happy about this move than Patrick Mahomes.
On the field, Mahomes and Kelce have a connection unlike many others that we have seen throughout NFL history. In terms of quarterback-tight end connections, they are perhaps only rivaled by the likes of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski in terms of on-field success together.
Kelce’s extension led to Mahomes taking to social media moments after it was announced, sending a clear message to Kelce that he’ll “never let him leave” Kansas City.
“I told y’all I’ll never let him leave!! Congrats my guy!”

Kelce has of course helped Mahomes’ development as a quarterback in a massive way, especially in the early portions of his career.
It now seems like Mahomes is at a level where he can produce no matter who is on the field catching passes for him. But it goes without saying that playing with Kelce is certainly a whole lot better for the Chiefs offense as a whole than without him.
Kelce will now be under contract with the Chiefs through the 2027-28 season. Given the fact that he is already 34 years of age, Mahomes is likely right in his assessment that he won’t be letting Kelce go, as he will likely finish out his NFL career with the Chiefs thanks to this new deal.
