The New York Giants just signed starting quarterback Daniel Jones to a four-year contract extension before the start of the 2023 season, but that isn’t stopping the team from seriously looking at the top quarterback prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft.
This week, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll was in attendance to watch the pro day workout of Washington Huskies star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. And according to a report from Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Daboll will meet with North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye “in the coming days.”
“The #Giants have a presence here at UNC today but Brian Daboll went to UW to see Michael Penix. Sources say the team will work out and meet with Drake Maye in the coming days,” Garafolo said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Obviously, this is pretty significant news that could hint at the team’s intentions at the quarterback position, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.
Have always said the Giants second round pick was Penix’ floor, this might solidify that. https://t.co/7fiyNtZmUZ

Feels like this means daboll wants to make sure he seems Rome/penix but is prioritizing maye to see in a personal setting https://t.co/ZpFHhXfvXE

How the #Giants handled the QB Pro Day conflict. 1 on 1 workout with Drake Maye later instead of splitting up Schoen/Daboll. Facility visit for Penix per @BradyHenderson https://t.co/0iF70vkdV4

We’ll have to see whether or not the team ultimately decides to select a quarterback in the upcoming draft despite the recent contract extension for Jones.
