The New Orleans Saints are in need of a new backup quarterback after their previous backup Jameis Winston decided to leave the team and sign with the Cleveland Browns earlier this week. And it sounds like the team is bringing in a player they think could possibly fill that void.

According to a report from Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football, the Saints have signed veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman to see if he can prove himself and earn the backup quarterback spot for the team.

“Saints signed Nathan Peterman to compete as the backup quarterback, per source,” Underhill said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

“Peterman worked with QB coach Andrew Janocko in Chicago and served as the backup for Carr before,” Underhill said in a follow-up post.

Anytime an NFL team makes a decision like this at the quarterback position, it’s significant news. As a result, it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

Peterman will likely be competing with 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener for the backup quarterback role for the Saints this offseason. We’ll have to see whether or not he is able to earn it successfully.
