On the San Francisco 49ers’ opening drive of the game, the team marched all the way down the field and seemed to be on the verge of scoring an early touchdown to take a lead in the game, but star running back Christian McCaffrey fumbled the ball and the Kansas City Chiefs recovered, taking a scoring opportunity away from the Niners. McCaffrey was not happy about it after the game.
During his postgame press conference, McCaffrey had a pretty blunt reaction to losing the fumble in the Super Bowl.
“Just can’t put the ball on the ground,” McCaffrey said.
McCaffrey was very close to winning the first Super Bowl of his career on Sunday night with the game even going into overtime. But it ultimately wasn’t meant to be, and that hurt.
“It hurts deep,” McCaffrey said. “It’s something that you dream about as a kid. You’ve worked so hard for all year and come up short. I think you just have to go through all the emotions as they come, but each day just chip away getting back to normal. I don’t know how long it’s going to take. It’s still fresh and it still sucks.”
