The Kansas City Chiefs have built a dynasty in recent years under the tremendous leadership of longtime head coach Andy Reid. And on Monday, both Reid and the team agreed that he won’t be going anywhere else anytime soon.
This past Super Bowl championship is the fourth that Reid has obtained as an NFL coach, his third as a head coach which have all come while he has been with the Chiefs.
But at 66 years of age, there was perhaps some concern from Chiefs fans that Reid may decide to call it quits on his coaching career after their latest Super Bowl victory.
Instead, he has done the exact opposite, committing to the Chiefs organization even further by agreeing to a contract extension to remain as the head coach of the team. On top of Reid’s extension, the Chiefs have also extended team president Mark Donovan and general manager Brett Veach.
Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt issued a statement on the matter, praising the trio for all they have done for the organization.
“Mark, Brett, and Andy have achieved historic success together, and we are thrilled that they will continue in their roles for many years to come,” Hunt said in a statement on their respective contract extensions. “Individually, Mark, Brett, and Andy each represent the best in the National Football League at their respective positions, and together, they make up one of the finest leadership teams in all of professional sports. They have been tremendous leaders for this organization on and off the field, and we look forward to their continued success in the years ahead.”
This announcement doesn’t detail how long the contract extension may be for Reid. But at the very least, this should quiet some of the retirement rumors that have surrounded Reid this offseason.
