This is one of the most pathetically depressing examples of poor sportsmanship you’ll ever see in college basketball. Portland State was down by 14 points to rival Portland in the closing seconds and as Portland held the ball to eat up the last few seconds, one Portland State player did something beyond questionable. Guard Bryce White pretended to offer a handshake but instead of congratulating his opponent on a good, hard-fought game, he swiped the ball and threw down a one-handed hammer on the other end.
Many questioned whether or not this was a betting issue but Portland was favored by 1-3 points, depending on the service, therefore it was simply an example of a horrendously sore loser. It is highly likely that White had a long conversation with his coaching staff and the athletic department’s administration following his actions.
