In honor of the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 19th, the NBA has put together a clip which celebrates the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy in pro basketball.
So, with Martin Luther King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech playing over it, the NBA recalls some of its finer barrier-breaking moments, such as the naming of Bill Russell as the NBA’s first black coach, Violet Palmer’s debut as the first woman to referee at the highest level of competitive sports and Jason Collins’ decision to come out as the first openly gay professional athlete in one of America’s largest four sports. Add in the NBA’s international inclusiveness, and the spot certainly celebrates the spirit of MLK Day.
