MMA fighter Monique Bastos was in Acailandia, Brazil for some jiu-jitsu training on Tuesday night when she was confronted by two men on a motorcycle.
The two told Bastos and a couple of her friends to hand their phones over to them. Bastos wasn’t keen on letting the would-be attackers get away easily. The strawweight fighter told MMAFighting.com that she decided to defend herself once she realized that the men were not armed.
“I tried to hold my phone, and I realized they were not armed. When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground. The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one.”
While one of the men was unfortunately able to get away, Bastos was able to put the other in a leg lock until police made their way to the scene 15 minutes later.
Judging by the video, the alleged robber likely regrets ever approaching Bastos in the first place. Those are not the screams of a man who made a good decision.
