The San Francisco Giants’ Tim Hudson started Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in what was likely his final game as a professional ball player.
Hudson pitched into the third inning before he was sent back to the dugout to a worthy standing ovation from those at AT&T Park. The 17 year veteran won 222 games over the course of his career with the Giants, Braves and A’s and he was selected to four All-Star teams. He also won a World Series with Giants in 2014.

Despite having a tender hip, Hudson wanted to pitch one final time in front of the home crowd at San Francisco. Hudson called the day “really special” after the game.
“I was surprised how good I was able to hold it together there,” Hudson said. “The last couple weeks have been a little bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me. I’ve had so much fun over the last 17 years and today was a really special day for me, the way the fans responded, the way my teammates responded. I didn’t quite know what to expect but I’m very grateful for all of it.”
