Friday night’s Triple-A game between the Columbus Clippers and Indianapolis Indians featured a sneaky hidden ball trick, which left pretty much everyone in attendance – including the game’s broadcasters – extremely befuddled.
In the third inning, Indians shortstop Gustav Nunez appeared to reach base safely after an error at third base. As Nunez stepped off the bag to switch his footing, Clippers first baseman Jesus Aguilar, who was hiding the baseball in his glove, managed to plant the tag in the brief second that Nunez was not stepping on first base. The first base umpire saw it and called Nunez out, leading to stunned silence around the stadium.
Baseball can be weird sometimes.
