Major League Baseball is taking some strides to speed up the pace of play on the diamond this season with new rules that they hope will trim the amount of down time between action during games. Among them is a restriction on hitters stepping out of the batter’s box in between pitches. Starting this year, hitters at the plate will have to keep one foot in the box at all times.
Some players – such as David Ortiz – are not very happy about the new changes because they like to step out and use the time to think what might be coming on the next pitch. Whether they like it not, players will have to adapt to the new rules if they don’t want their wallet to take a hit, as they come with a proposed penalty of $500 per violation.
Adapting can be easier said than done for some players who have a routine that they’ve followed their entire baseball life. It’s going to take some time for adjustments to sink in. Just in case you need proof, let’s check in on Ryan Howard.
How about Edwin Encarnacion?
Yeah, it looks like this might take a while. I’m fine with it, though, because the struggle is hilarious.
