Baseball’s top prospect, Byron Buxton, center fielder for the Minnesota Twins’ Double-A affiliate, left the field in an ambulance after a scary outfield collision on Wednesday night.
The 20-year old Buxton was tracking a fly ball in his first game with the New Britain Rock Cats (he was promoted on Monday) when he dove into teammate Mike Kvasnicka – who was also diving to make a play on the ball – in right-center field. Kvasnicka’s knee appeared to hit Buxton near his left shoulder, knocking him unconscious for 10 minutes.
Luckily, Buxton’s injuries were limited to a concussion and he managed to avoid any broken bones on the play. Seems like a pretty fortunate outcome for a collision as violent as it was.
