Legendary Yankees catcher and Hall of Famer Yogi Berra passed away Tuesday evening at the age of 90. He was one of the greatest catchers of all time, compiling 358 home runs and 1,430 RBI to go along with a career .285 batting average.
Berra was a stellar baseball player, but he might’ve been even better at consistently providing exceptionally witty quotes, known as ‘Yogi-isms’. Here are 15 of the best ones, though there are many, many more where that came from.
“Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.”
“I usually take a two-hour nap from one to four.”
“It ain’t over till it’s over.”
“All pitchers are liars or crybabies.”
“It’s deja vu all over again.”
“We made too many wrong mistakes.”
“It ain’t the heat, it’s the humility.”
“You can observe a lot by watching.”
“If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”
“A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore.”
“He hits from both sides of the plate. He’s amphibious.”
“I always thought that record would stand until it was broken.”
“In baseball, you don’t know nothing.”
“I never said most of the things I said.”
“When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”
Rest in peace, Yogi.
