8. Madden NFL 2005
Certified Bangers: “Take Me Out,” by Franz Ferdinand and “American Idiot,” by Green Day.
Other Phat Tracks: “Da Heavy Hittas,” by Jazze Pha, “Give It Up,” by Midtown, “Alive and Amplified,” by The Mooney Suzuki and “Go!,” by will.i.am.
Damn, Son. Where’d You Find This?: “Yung Wun Anthem,” by Yung Wun
Madden NFL 2005 allowed us to create a fan and listen to “The Tony Bruno Show” for the first time. It also gave us the first opportunity to hear Green Day’s “American Idiot” before it was included on the album of the same name that would go on to become a modern-day classic, as well as inspire a Broadway musical.
Another interesting footnote of the 2005 soundtrack was will.i.am’s duplicitous “Go!,” which was featured in both Madden AND NBA Live for 2005.
However, perhaps the biggest standout from 2005’s soundtrack was from Atlanta rapper and Ruff Ryders affiliate Yung Wun. On “Yung Wun Anthem” the ATL emcee boasted in the chorus “Now I don’t give a f*ck, if ya’ll don’t give a f*ck.” Well, apparently the mainstream public didn’t because we never quite heard from Yung Wung again despite getting monster features from DMX, David Banner and Lil’ Flip on the Jackson 5-sampling lukewarm hit “Tear it Up.”
