From July 10th through October 4th, the Brooklyn Museum will be holding an exhibit on the history of sneakers entitled “The Rise of Sneaker Culture.”
Featuring around 150 pairs of kicks ranging from models from major manufacturers to private collections, the exhibit will “explore the complex social history and cultural significance of the footwear now worn by billions of people throughout the world.”
In addition to simply showcasing some of the most iconic shoes of all time, “The Rise of Sneaker Culture” will also include photos, film, interactive media, design drawings and examine “the social history, technical innovations, fashion trends, and marketing campaigns that have shaped sneaker culture over the past two centuries.”
So, if you’re around Brooklyn at any time during the next few months and have an inkling of interest in sneakers, this exhibit sounds like it will be well worth your time. If you aren’t going to New York anytime soon, the folks over at Sneaker News were able to get early access to “The Rise of Sneaker Culture” and they snapped some great photos of the event.
