Dave Chappelle is back doing standup, but he may be back a bit prematurely if his performance in Hartford Connecticut was any indication. Chappelle was in the middle of his routine when he got heckled by a couple folks in the crowd and instead of turning it back on his critics, he simply walked off stage. If you want another person’s angle on why Dave left you can read it HERE in which a person who was actually there explains how it was not a meltdown.
According to EW:
“All right, you guys,” Chappelle said shortly before exiting stage left. “I like some of you, I hate some of you. I forgive some of you, but I don’t forgive all of you.” The shouts got louder. “You guys have totally ruined my chances of running for Congress or something,” Chappelle continued. The noise swelled. Then, with a simple “thank you” and “good night,” Chappelle made his way off stage, to the strains of Kanye West’s “New Slaves.” Watch it all in the video below.
Welp.
