Last month, the Michigan Wolverines hired Ohio State Buckeyes running backs coach Tony Alford for the same position at Michigan, but it sounds like he won’t be the only coach defecting to the other side of the rivalry this offseason.
According to a report from Joey Kaufman of the Columbus Dispatch, the Ohio State Buckeyes have decided to hire Tim Drevno as an offensive analyst on their staff. Drevno is a longtime offensive line coach and was the first offensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.
“Ohio State has hired longtime offensive line coach Tim Drevno as part of its support staff, the school confirmed Wednesday,” Kaufman wrote for the Dispatch this week.
“Drevno, who will be a quality control coach for the Buckeyes, worked with Chip Kelly for the past three seasons at UCLA.”
There is a long history of coaches flipping sides of the rivalry, including Alford leaving this season as well as Al Washington and Greg Mattison leaving Michigan to join Ryan Day’s staff back in 2019.
Obviously, hiring Drevno well after he has left Michigan is different than hiring a current coach directly away from the program, but it’s still a former Michigan Man changing sides in college football’s biggest rivalry.
