The NCAA announced a number of huge changes that will be implemented this coming college football season that could have the sport looking much more similar to the NFL.
There have always been a number of differences that make the college game slightly different than the NFL. But now, it seems like the differences between the two may be becoming less and less.
On Friday, the NCAA announced three significant changes, implementing in-helmet communications between coaches and players, a two-minute warning, and the use of tablets for players to be able to watch film on the sidelines.
These were all three things that have been allowed in the NFL for quite some time, but hadn’t been implemented into the college game yet.
Perhaps the most significant change comes with in-helmet communications, which makes it so coaches no longer need to relay signs from the sidelines to the players on the field.
This is of course significant because college football recently had a huge controversy on their hands with sign-stealing this past season involving former Michigan recruiting staffer Connor Stalions.
Now, situations like that will likely no longer happen, which seems like it will be a positive for everyone.
One could argue that these changes have been a long time coming in the college game. But it does make college football quite similar to the NFL. And it can obviously be debated whether that is actually a good thing or not in terms of fan enjoyment of the sport.
