As the Ohio State Buckeyes get set to begin their preseason camp in preparation for the upcoming college football season, it sounds like they’ll be preparing without one of their linebackers.

On Wednesday afternoon – a day before the Buckeyes begin their fall camp – linebacker Kourt Williams announced that he is retiring from football after several injury-plagued seasons with the Buckeyes.

“4 knee surgeries & 3 shoulder surgeries – In these 5 years, there’s been a lot of light and a lot of dark…but I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s been a long time coming, and it’s time to move on,” Williams wrote in a post on Instagram announcing his decision.

Williams also quoted scripture in his post, sharing Jeremiah 29:11, which says “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”

After signing with the Buckeyes as part of the 2020 high school recruiting class, Williams had the best and most complete season of college football in his freshman season in which he had 27 total tackles including four tackles for loss and a sack.

His departure leaves a little bit of a hole in Ohio State’s depth at linebacker.
