Former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Art Schlichter had a promising career derailed by a gambling addiction that ultimately to crimes that landed him in prison. And now, it sounds like he’s in some pretty serious trouble with drugs while out of prison on probation.
According to a report from WSYX, the former first-round pick is now facing a drug charge just a few months after he was sentenced to probation following a different drug-related charge.
“An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper wrote in a criminal complaint that he stopped a disabled vehicle driven by Schlichter near East Hudson Street and Hamilton Avenue on Feb. 2 at around 4:22 p.m.” WSYX reported last week.
“Schlichter handed the trooper a crack pipe, and a search revealed small white rocks believed to be crack cocaine inside the car, the court documents said. He was charged with fifth-degree felony possession of cocaine and given a summons to appear in court next week.”
Back in 2022, Schlichter was found unresponsive in a hotel room in an incident that led to drug-related charges.
Schlichter had a record-breaking season with the Ohio State Buckeyes before becoming the first quarterback ever selected in the first round of the NFL Draft in program history.
