The San Francisco 49ers just made a huge move for their star player. Christian McCaffrey is one of the best football players in the National Football League. While the Niners paid a price for him, he’s been worth it and more.
Now he’ll have a bank account that shows it. The 49ers agreed to a new contract extension for the star running back McCaffrey. CMC will now make $19 million annually in each of the next two seasons.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news and terms of the deal.
“Reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey once again has reset the RB market, signing a two-year extension with the 49ers, averaging $19 million per year,” Schefter wrote on X. Schefter added that the former Stanford standout “will receive an additional $8 million over what he was scheduled to make in the first two years while adding $24 million in guarantees.”

It’s a sweet deal for McCaffrey, who’s played like the top running back in the NFL over the past few years. Others like Derrick Henry have played at an elite level, but McCaffrey does so much for the Niners and their offense that it’s hard to dispute his standing in the league. Many might have bashed San Francisco at the time of the trade, but they’ve made great work ever since.
Since arriving in San Francisco, McCaffrey has rushed for 2,205 yards on 431 carries with 20 rushing touchdowns, along with 11 receiving touchdowns.
