A youth hockey coach from Vancouver was arrested last year for intentionally tripping an opposing player during postgame handshakes and was dealt a serious blow today as a result.
Martin Tremblay, the 48-year-old coach, pleaded guilty to one count of assault last November for the following incident:
The idiotic decision resulted in two players, one 10-year-old and one 13-year-old, falling to the ice and immediately prompted legal action. Tremblay was sentenced today to 15 days in prison for his actions.
“The tripping of the boys was akin to a cowardly sucker punch on an unsuspecting victim,” said Richmond provincial court Judge Patrick Chen.
Tremblay joins the baby-wielding now-infamous heckling father as two of many parents or coaches reliving their apparently broken hockey childhood.
