The Beatles are one of the most influential and prominent bands in the history of music. But it sounds like drummer Ringo Starr thinks that Taylor Swift is rivaling the enthusiasm they generated in the 1960s.
During a recent interview with American Songwriter, Ringo Starr had a pretty clear message for Taylor Swift when he was asked whether or not he felt that she was “closest thing to Beatlemania for this generation.”
“I do,” he said. “I think Taylor Swift is great anyway. She’s pulling them in, you know. When we talk about her, I always have to mention that the first time I met her, she was 14. She was at the Grammys with her mother. Then, I saw a photo of her the other day, just yesterday, of her and her mother.”
However, he wasn’t totally willing to give up music’s throne to Taylor Swift just yet.
“Taylor is the ‘now’ one. We are the ‘still now,’” Starr explained.
Needless to say, these comments quickly went viral on social media, leading to a lot of reactions from fans.
“Ringo Starr’s endorsement of Swift as this generation’s Beatlemania is a testament to her enduring impact on the music world,” one fan wrote on X.
“Taylor Swift is the Queen,” another fan said.
“Agreed. I was a huge MJ fan, too. She is in the same conversation with the Beatles and Michael Jackson. That’s iconic!” another fan wrote.
“Sure, but it took multiple members of the Beatles to do what Taylor does virtually on her own Write, sing, dance, marketing strategy, song mashups, the vision of the performance, all the creative stuff. She’s superhuman,” another fan added.
“She’s popular but the Beatles changed popular culture and music. The greatest impact of any performer in the history of entertainment. All in less than a seven year career,” another fan said.
“She’s actually way bigger,” a fan said.
Clearly, Swift has earned the admiration of one of music’s biggest legends.
