The New England Patriots have a decision to make regarding their starting quarterback this season as veteran Jacoby Brissett and rookie Drake Maye continue to compete for the starting role. But it doesn’t sound like the team is ready to name a starter yet.
During a recent press conference, New England Patriots head coach offered his reaction to the current decision he’s facing as he made it clear that he simply does not know which of the two quarterbacks will be the starter this season.
“We still don’t know right now,” Mayo said according to Pro Football Talk. “We have another preseason game, and then a week after that. When I know, I’ll let you know.”
Brissett has been the team’s first-team quarterback for the majority of the offseason as Maye continued to develop behind him. We’ll have to see whether or not that remains the case heading into the season or if Maye can overtake him and take over the starting spot.
Mayo indicated that he likes Maye’s progress.
“Right now it’s all going the right way, right direction, and hopefully he continues to get better,” Mayo said.
It seems like it will not necessarily be an easy decision for Mayo and the Patriots.
