History might only appeal to a select group of individuals but even the non-history buffs can appreciate how cool this is. After ice melted on Lake Michigan earlier this month, the water was incredibly clear. While this routinely occurs each spring, things were clear enough this year that you could see shipwrecks from the air.
The shipwrecks sit in relatively shallow water, making them perfectly visible when things clear up. Included in those is the Rising Sun from 1917 and the James McBride from 1857, as shown by the Washington Post via the U.S. Coast Guard. They sit along the Manitou Passage off the shore of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
