Over the weekend, Ethan Johnson of Mesa Westwood in Arizona managed to set a state record for most rushing yards in a single high school game by scampering for an astounding 566 yards against Gilbert Higley.
Somehow, Johnson accumulated all 566 yards on only 38 carries for a very healthy 14.9 yards per carry. He also scored seven touchdowns. Amazingly, that sort of superhuman effort was just enough to eek out a win, as Mesa Westwood only beat Gilbert Higley by a score of 46-41.
According to Max Preps, the previous state record was set in 2013 by Empire’s Sean Fitzsimmons when he rushed for 513 yards in a game.
